Commissioning of Chaplains at Bluewater
20th August 2026

Dele Ibidapo-Obe, Hilary Brown, Lee Cogger were chaplains commissioned at Bluewater on 13th August 2026. Here Lee writes:
“I am thrilled to share the wonderful news with you all that Dele, Hilary, and I have officially been commissioned as chaplains for Bluewater! The Ven Will Adam, Chair of KWM and Archdeacon of Canterbury Cathedral, led the commissioning. Standing there felt incredibly special. It marked a huge, rewarding milestone in my journey.
My experience of chaplaincy started 30 years ago when I started working in the NHS. My specialisation has been cancer patients, so I have worked closely with hospital and hospice chaplains. However, I never realised the other locations where chaplains worked.
My personal path began during my time as an ordinand. As part of my training, I completed a pastoral placement with the amazing team of Bluewater chaplains, after searching for chaplains who aren't in hospice or hospital-based settings. I quickly fell in love with the work. It meant so much to me that Penny agreed I could apply to stay on and volunteer after my placement ended. The experiences at Bluewater are truly shaping my calling, teaching me how to show up for people, listen closely, and offer care in everyday spaces with people of many faiths and no faith. I believe the experiences I am having will help to make me a better priest.
Taking on a new role and stepping into a calling like this can naturally feel a little daunting. However, the warmth of this community quickly washed away any nerves or concerns. You have wrapped me in so much support and made me feel incredibly welcome, going above and beyond to make me feel right at home. Thank you for walking alongside me and cheering me on. I feel deeply honoured to 'officially' begin this new chapter with you all. Thank you all. Grace and Peace.”
